I want to submit my story, what do you want me to say?
We’re looking for a 100 to 350 word story and a photograph. It can be an “open letter to my abuser”, poetry, short story, etc. What do you want your abuser to know? How does the trauma still affect you? What do you wish people understood? Then, take a photograph of an object, possession, old photo, etc. that represents your story.

You are absolutely not obligated to write about the details of your sexual assault. Please share only what you are comfortable with having published. All we ask is that you speak your truth the best that you can, explaining how the trauma of your sexual assault affects you: mentally, emotionally, socially, financially, etc.

Do I have to use my real name? Can I name people in my story?
You don’t have to use your real name and we recommend that you don’t use the real names and/or last names of others in your story to avoid legal implications.

When is the deadline to send my story?
The official deadline to submit your story is December 15, 2019.

What is the reason for the book?
To give a voice to survivors, support others who may have experienced something similar, and help change the way sex crimes are approached, perceived and prosecuted.

How do I know if my story has been selected to be published in the book?
You will be notified if your story is selected to be published in the book. If your story is not selected due to space constraints but meets all requirements, it will be published electronically, either through a disc accompanying the book or online, or both.

Note: The intake team is quite small so it may take up to three weeks to be published online; intake includes editing, second review, scheduling and signing the release form.

Who do you accept submissions from?
Men, women, youth of all ages, any orientation including folks from the LGBTQQIP2SAA community.

Will I get paid for my submission?
No. 100% of proceeds of the book will benefit sexual assault clinics, centres and initiatives around the world.

Will you share my contact information with anyone?
We will not share your contact information with anyone unless you have given us written consent. We will never sell your contact information.

Do I have to send a photo of myself?
No. The photo that accompanies your story can be of anything that relates to or represents your story.

I want to submit but I am not a good writer/ do not speak/write in English.
Don’t worry. All stories will be edited to make sure there are no major spelling or grammatical errors but will keep the integrity of your words. If you don’t speak/write in English, send your story in your mother tongue and we will translate it. Any edited story will be sent back to you for final approval before publishing.

• send your story in .doc, docx, or google doc. format
• send your photograph in .jpeg, .tiff, or .pdf format and photo credit name, if any
• label your story and photograph name of country_your full name_story/photo
